Version 1.3 | November 8, 2026

OUR APPROACH: A HOUSEHOLD PLANNING WORKSHEET
Use what you have first. Adapt this checklist to your emergency, household, and actual carrying ability. This is not a complete emergency response plan. Follow local emergency instructions.

HOUSEHOLD PLAN
[ ] List likely local emergencies and ways to receive official alerts.
[ ] Record household members, pets, accessibility and communication needs.
[ ] Write sheltering actions and specific leaving triggers for each hazard.
[ ] Agree on nearby and farther-away destinations, permission, and two routes where possible.
[ ] Record an out-of-area contact and how to reconnect if separated.
[ ] Check destination access, transport, pet arrangements, and alternatives if roads close.
Nearby destination / route: _____________________________________
Farther destination / route: ____________________________________
Leaving trigger / decision maker: _______________________________
Contact / meeting plan: _________________________________________

SUPPLIES TO ACCOUNT FOR
[ ] Safe water, food-grade containers, and safe replenishment appropriate to the hazard.
[ ] Familiar ready-to-eat meals; account for calories, protein, fats, variety, and allergies.
[ ] Medication and any storage requirements; coordinate needs with clinician/pharmacist.
[ ] First aid, sanitation, toilet needs, hygiene, and waste supplies.
[ ] Suitable clothing, footwear, weather protection, and bedding.
[ ] Lighting, communications, charging, and necessary power backups.
[ ] Essential documents, contact information, keys, and pet supplies.
[ ] Can opener, easy-open portions, and necessary assistive equipment.

SPREAD THE PLAN
[ ] Assign essentials to carry bag, vehicle loading kit, home reserve, and agreed backup location.
[ ] Identify what still works if home or vehicle is unavailable.
[ ] Obtain permission for backup storage and check access and conditions.
[ ] Keep loads manageable; plan smaller containers or help as needed.
[ ] Weigh, lift, load, open, and use supplies safely. Record changes.

SOURCED WATER BASELINE
CDC recommends storing at least 1 US gallon/person/day for 3 days; more may be needed for heat, pregnancy, illness, or pets. Consider a longer reserve if possible. This is stored supply, not a carrying target.
